🕑 11:15 PM: Incoming! 


Harry Ashfield signs.


FINALLY! Posh get the deal for Ashfield over the line on a permanent basis. I said earlier that I thought Wrexham signing an attacking midfield player would be a positive signal that this deal could happen, and behold, it has. 


This is clearly a deal that DMAC has been chasing all summer, so I am encouraged by that. This is far from a panic signing.


In relation to his style, he is a lengthy midfielder, similar to Matthew Garbett in profile. He enjoys taking the ball in tight spaces and dribbling. 


A progressive passer, Ashfield was highly-rated at Wrexham so this is somewhat of a coup. 


I am pleased with the signing - I am sure a First Look will be available on the UpThePoshcast channel in the coming days! 



🕑 11:05 PM: Lolos out on loan 


Posh train wreck Klaidi Lolos has joined Rotherham on a season-long loan deal. Listen, I don’t think he is a Peterborough United player; however, this is actually a good loan move. 


If Lolos is successful, he can potentially be sold next year for an actual fee, which I didn’t ever see being possible. 


He was an EXCELLENT player in League Two, and I have nothing against him; I hope that Rotherham can get the best out of him again. 


Rotherham are getting a number ten who can look technically good in patches, but is a long way off being a good footballer across 90 minutes at the moment. 


At his best, he is creative and has a keen eye for goal too, but Posh have never seen that. I wish him well.

The deadline has PASSED - but are Posh done for the night?

George Nevett and David Kamara have joined Tranmere Rovers on season-long loan deals. I think this is a good move for both of them.


I could genuinely see both of these players being good enough for Posh one day, and am delighted that they will hopefully get regular minutes. 


Kamara needs to work on being confident, making runs knowing that his teammates will find him, showing conviction in front of goal and using his physical frame to his advantage. 


For Nevett, I would love him to develop his playstyle to compensate for his lack of pace. Plenty of defenders are good while being slow, hopefully this year Nevett can develop that himself. Playing full 90s in League Two should really help. 


What are Tranmere fans getting? 


Nevett will be a genuinely exceptional ball-playing central defender at League Two level. He is left-footed and so thrives on the left side of a back three. 


Defensively, Nevett is good when the ball is on the ground at tackling, however is very slow. He is tall though and okay aerially due to his height.


He will (I think) stand up to the test defensively though, and genuinely be a good defender in the fourth tier. 


David Kamara has played less first team football than Nevett, but has a fantastic physical profile. Strong and capable of holding off defenders, Kamara has been a handful at times in League One.


He is still not polished technically, but can finish well, and was prolific for our U21s plus out on loan in non-league football. 


I think it will take Kamara a while to get up to speed, however I could see him making an impact, particularly off the bench.



🕑 2 PM 


Tumbleweed… 


There have been a few murmurs on Twitter. Ollie Bostock of West Brom has been linked on a loan deal; he is well thought of at the Hawthorns, but is a left winger, so I do not see a huge amount of legs in it, as we have sufficient depth in that area. 



Unless there is an injury to Masara that is more serious than we first thought. That would be a grim start to his Posh career and very unfortunate for the club. 


The rumour comes from one account on West Brom's Twitter, though, so I am not feeling particularly confident that this deal is genuine. 


Expecting some news soon, surely! 



đź•‘ 12:30 PM: Who could Posh bring in?


The main name that I could see Posh doing a deal for is attacking midfielder Harry Ashfield from Wrexham. Local journalists on the Wrexham side have reported heavy interest from Posh.


It is reported this morning that Wrexham have secured a deal for Sheffield United number ten Callum O’Hare, could this free up Ashfield for a move? 



It is going to be a busy day of outgoings at Wrexham, who usually wait until the final countdown to ship out unwanted players (see Tom O’Connor and Jacob Mendy to Posh on deadline day last year). Let’s hope Posh can be the beneficiary of this again! 


If any other deals are to be done, I can only see Premier League loans. There is a plethora of young talent available still that PL clubs will desperately be trying to place at the right club. 


I wouldn’t be surprised if DMAC’s phone is on fire right now with PL Academy directors trying to send him their youngsters. Maybe he will waver slightly and accept a really promising looking one.


Posh have been linked to Ipswich striker James Mauge on loan this morning, however I cannot see this being the case and the source is questionable.


I would love an experienced central defender, however with Dan Scarr (the last hope I could find) now off to Salford, that feels very unlikely.

🕑 11:10 AM 


After a decent lay-in, I am awake, showered and ready to follow the drama of deadline day. I think it could be a busy day for Posh today. 


Expecting confirmation of Nevett and Kamara’s League Two loans, as well as potentially some news (either through official channels or an update from DMAC) as to the state of affairs regarding Conn-Clarke, Lolos and DOBB. 



In terms of incomings, I still think we are a couple short. I have taken stock of the squad, and this is where we are, I think. The yellow over Jones and Garbett is because I am not sure we will ever see Garbett again for Posh, so we need an extra body in there for the attacking midfield role.



We have no clear backup to Liam Kelly; I would love another, more physical central midfielder who could back up Kelly and potentially play alongside him. If Kelly is injured, we are in trouble; we currently have three midfielders for two spots - not enough.


Concerns remain about JD at right back, but that ship has sailed, and I think CJ and JD will continue to share that role until January at least. 


We lack a backup to Tom O’Connor; Nevett is not good enough yet (despite a promising start to the season), and if TOC goes down injured again, I do not trust the remaining central defenders. 


Think we could do with another experienced CB and a number ten. Of course, a high-profile departure like Harry Leonard or Bolu would trigger immediate action (even if I do think we could easily loan the latter back).
