The future's blue - the rise of Posh's new supporters group

Updated: Dec 17, 2025

Roaring crowds have helped spur Peterborough United onto memorable victories on many occasions.

Recent examples include an important win over Sheffield Wednesday in the play-offs, as well as thrashing local rivals Cambridge and Northampton.

But too often the crowds fail to raise the decibels, and the atmosphere falls flat.

Now a group of youngsters is trying to change that.

They are the Boro Blue Section, and their efforts were most evident in the Nene Derby victory last weekend.

Where it began….

Ollie Feetham, Jake Currall and Alfie McNally were part of a group of around 20 people who came together in the summer, with the intention of finding ways to improve the atmosphere at Posh games.

Ollie explained: “We got a load of people together, like-minded people, then we just came up with some ideas. We tried to look at other teams to see what they're doing and tried to do the same sort of thing.”

“I think it's more consistency in atmosphere we are looking for. You'd have one week where it'd be great, like the big games against Cambridge, Northampton, they'd always be amazing, play-offs as well.

“And then you'd have just normal games, where it lacks atmosphere, so we want to make it consistent that every week there is a good atmosphere and make the place a fortress.”

Luke McCarter added: “I’ve been following Posh properly for the best part of three years now and I quickly noticed how easy it was for teams to turn up at London Road and feel it was a non-intimidating place to come to.”

‘We found our people’

The group – based at the bottom of E3 in the GH Display stand - came up with their first display for the visit of Wycombe in September.

The following has grown steady ever since, now with around 50 members.

Ollie explained: “We have a wide range of ages. some people have more time on their hands than others, it’s whatever you can give. Everyone plays their part, whether it's giving opinions or getting there early on a match day to help set up displays.

“Ultimately, we just want to bring the whole fan base together.“

Dan Hinds brings his 8-year-old daughter along to the group:

“The kid loves it; she wants to get involved with the atmosphere and refuses to be an armchair supporter! This group gives her the chance to be part of something bigger and make a positive impact.

“As she puts it, 'Daddy, we have found our people'.”

Support from the club

The group has worked closely with the club to get them on board and help with access to the ground.

Ollie explained: “We had a couple of meetings with the club before the season started, just trying to explain to them what we're trying to do.

“At first, I think some of them found it hard to understand. But after a couple of meetings, they knew exactly what we wanted and from then we knew it was all about building trust.

“Now they let us go into the ground early to set up the display. They let us use the GH concourse one evening to paint the banner. They've been so supportive and helpful about it all, which is good.”

Nene derby success – off the pitch

The progress was most evident with the brilliant displays around the ground during the victory over Northampton on Saturday.

But this took a lot of time and effort, as well as fund-raising through their Just Giving page.

“The banner took 17 hours to mark out and paint. We were able to use the concourse of the GH display stand. We got there at about 3pm and we were there late that evening painting it.

“Then we got there on the day of the game at 8am and we finished all the preparation about 12.30pm.

“The club helped with the blue and white placards as they knew a company who did them, we funded most of it.

“We also stayed about 3 hours after the game, tidying up all the cards, which had created a bit of a mess.”

What’s next

The group have definitely left their mark on the Peterborough United fan base, but it doesn’t stop there.

“Well, to be fair, after all the work and planning involved for Saturday, I want a bit of a break from it!” admitted Ollie.

“But our aim is to keep trying to maintain a good atmosphere every game, a positive atmosphere, and we would like to grow the group a bit more. There will hopefully be more displays.

“If anyone wants to get involved, just drop us a message on social media or even just come down to the group on the day. It's so open, anyone can come down and speak to any of us.”

Luke has more concrete ambitions: “Our next project will certainly be a creation of a tifo depicting a famous posh moment or a player amongst other alumni.”

GH or London Road?

But what of the big issue which the group have helped raise, whether home fans could be on the move from London Road to the GH Display on a permanent basis.

“We had another meeting with the club, mainly about moving people into the GH,” Ollie explained.

“We spoke about how it benefits us. And we just feel like we can make that the home end to be in, if that makes sense.

“The club were very up for it. The main thing is that they just need more people to be in there every time it's open.”

Get involved!

Ollie believes communication on any level is key for the group.

“Obviously not everyone's going to love or like everything we’re doing. So, for us, instead of going online and sharing negative comments, we feel it’s better to come to us with new ideas and how else we can improve things.”

“Whenever we think about doing any sort of display or banner, we'll put out something on our socials explaining what we're trying to do.

“The main thing is just getting everyone involved and bringing the fan base together.”

Final thought

It’s clear that the Boro Blue Section are keen to promote a positive atmosphere, and being positioned in the middle of the GH Display shows that they have no interest in goading away fans or causing trouble.

This new generation of fans show real promise in helping Posh have more memorable nights at London Road for years to come.
