Chelsea starlet joins Posh

Peterborough United have announced the loan signing of Chelsea forward Jimmy Jay Morgan.

Who is he?
The 19-year-old is ‘highly-rated’ at Stamford Bridge, and spent the second half of last season on loan at League Two Gillingham.
He came through Southampton’s academy, and has represented England at U17 and U18 level.
Morgan is yet to make a first team appearance for Chelsea.
Malik Mothersille was the most recent Posh forward signed from Chelsea’s academy, he has now been sold on for a significant fee.
Morgan is prolific at youth level scoring 25 goals in 53 games for Chelsea youth in PL2.
Morgan made 16 appearances for Gillingham, scoring twice. He featured across the forward line, playing on both wings as well as up front. He can also be deployed as a number ten.
Where does he fit in?
Morgan is a great carrier of the ball, and has good pace as well. These attributes will be well-suited to Ferguson’s winger-based system.
He is right-footed, and so can play as an inverted left-winger, or a more natural one on the right.
Declan Frith has been promising so far, and so Morgan will be expected to play on the left side.
He will replace Abraham Odoh, who should be moved on as soon as possible.
Verdict
Morgan is rated at Chelsea, and is an exciting young footballer. If this was a permanent deal, I would be super excited by it.
However, Darragh MacAnthony has always been insistent that he does not want to loan in forward players, and has bemoaned Premier League clubs ‘stockpiling’ them.
MacAnthony backs his staff to really develop forward players, and wants to see the financial benefits of their success.
Loaning in a forward this late in the window screams desperation, particularly following the news that target Ethon Archer has slipped through their fingers.
Morgan is probably an improvement on the abysmal Odoh, and will hopefully add some much-needed quality to our forward line. However, a loan signing in such a profitable position is disappointing.
I can’t help but feel that a bit more foresight would have prevented this deadline day scrambling, however I am overall pleased to get some more attacking quality in.
