Manny’s move to Rangers

Darragh thinks Rangers have got a bargain in Manny Fernandez in a “phenomenal deal”, believing they will sell him in two years.

“He is going to look tremendous. I think Manny will kill it in Scotland. I think Rangers have absolutely got a bargain.

“They could turn him into a prime centre half, who at 26 could end up in the Premier League.”

Darragh also revealed he thought Manny made a mistake in turning down a move to Norwich in January, and that an unnamed Italian team bid for the defender.

But when it comes to transfer fees, Darragh is never satisfied: “We got paid a very, very good price, but of course we asked for more!”

Ricky-Jade Jones

Don’t mention Ricky-Jade Jones to Darragh… at first he refused to make any comment about the former striker and his move to Germany, which meant the club missed out on a big compensation pay-out.

Indirectly, Darragh said that the squad should always be about the “we” and it had been a bit too much “me” recently.

And he highlighted the importance of treating the football club like a family, both from his perspective and the players’ perspective.

Why family so important

Darragh made it clear that he believes family fights for each other, but that sadly not all players are like that.

The Chairman drew from the example of former captain and EFL Trophy winner, Harrison Burrows.

Harrison had given his all for the club and had Darragh’s blessing to leave, where the money for him both now and in the future would help the club financially.

Burrows, Darragh revealed ‘was in bits’ when Sheffield United took four days deliberating whether to sign him.

Darragh hinted that the deal was close to falling apart, but he put it back together. He rounded off the insight by saying that “Harrison Burrows knows we are family.”

Darragh, still answering the question that had originally been about Ricky, highlighted that he has “…changed the course of players' lives. I expect a little bit of a return on that sometimes.”

“I will fight to the end for them if they fight to the end for us.”

He also gave UpThePoshcast another exclusive insight into behind-the-scenes transfer dealings for Jack Sparkes.
