Five Peterborough United games in five days

I came back from university for a week, and so decided to do a Peterborough United marathon.
With the year the team has had, it sounded more like a threat than an exciting prospect.
But five victories and 20 goals later, I am out the other side. With some thoughts to share…

Saturday: Posh 5-0 AFC Wimbledon
What a way to kick things off!
Luke Williams has these lads playing well above what we’ve previously seen this season. I sat in the GH, and loved the feel good atmosphere - really felt like we had our club back.
Ben Woods was my MOTM in this game, I felt he completely ran the show, putting in one of the most complete midfield performances I’ve seen at Posh in a long time.
It was great to see Leonard and Lindgren scoring as well, hopefully a sign of things to come. They both seemed low on confidence under Ferguson, but Williams has empowered them to miss without being shouted at, which must be refreshing.
The full time scenes as well, with all four stands bouncing to Freed From Desire, were up there with some of the best I’ve seen.
The good vibe is back at London Road - long may it continue!

Sunday: Posh Women 2-0 Leafield Athletic
Sunday presented my first chance to watch the women’s team this season.
I came into the game with high expectations: the team were looking to continue a 100% winning record in the league, and were up against a side challenging them at the top of the table.
The women did not disappoint, putting in a dominant performance from start to finish. Anna Pitt, the American defender, was my POTM after a physically imposing performance.
My personal highlight was fellow UpThePoshcast host Ashley in a vocal sparring match with the Leafield coach following a contentious refereeing decision.
A good day at PIMS park, and like the women’s team, I kept marching on.

Monday: Posh U18s 6-0 Boldmere St Michaels
Back to London Road for the FA Youth Cup, and I was excited to see what the young players could serve up.
It was a dominant performance by a Posh team who clearly outclassed their opponents.
Bolu Shofowoke stole the headlines with a clinical hat-trick, he is absolutely rapid and a fantastic finisher - an undoubtedly bright future ahead of him.
Patryk Sykut was my MOTM though, and I am quickly becoming a big fan of him. He has a fantastic first touch, great vision and the ball on a string when he runs with it.
At the back, the partnership of Lucca Mendonca and Oliver Arber was very solid, although they were barely tested.
With a strong crowd and a clear buzz around the ground, this was a cracking evening watching a group of players who could all be involved in the first team in the coming seasons.

Tuesday: Crawley 1-2 Posh
God bless the Vertu Trophy.
I was excited for this one. There is something very special about a football game with a sub 1000 attendance on a drizzly Tuesday night.
This game did not disappoint, it was perfectly barmy. From the strike partnership of a ‘Boro reject’ and a former Cambridge man getting pelters from the away end, to a dramatic last minute winner, it was classic Posh in the Vertu.
Jimmy-Jay Morgan was my MOTM for this one. He scored the Posh opener through relentless pressing, and put himself about all evening.
Shoutout to Fabian Claxton who was very solid on debut, deservedly getting promoted from the U21s.
Credit also to Donay O’Brien-Brady who made a great impact after coming on, injecting real urgency into the game, and inspiring great scenes with his last minute winner.
I am very glad we progressed in this competition, as it is one I have developed a great affection for. Bring on the next round!

Wednesday: Posh U21s 5-0 Crewe Alexandra
I fell at the final hurdle and didn’t manage to see this one in person, however I still watched the whole game on Posh+.
After a quiet performance for the U18s on Monday, Eddie Fox showed his quality in this one, scoring twice and dominating the midfield. He was my MOTM.
David Kamara was fantastic up front too, bullying defenders and scoring two great goals. The second was especially good, rifling one in from outside the area.
This sealed off a fantastic five days of football, with 20 Posh goals, four clean sheets and some very high quality play.
I don’t think I could do another five days straight away, however if the football remains that high quality, I will always enjoy watching any Peterborough United team.
Up The Posh!
