Posh sign midfielder, with more new arrivals expected before the window closes.

New Zealand international Matthew Garbett has arrived on a free transfer from Eredivisie side NAC Breda.
This signing feels an attempt to reinvigorate some positivity as the chairman labels it a ‘statement of intent’ that Posh are not done in the window just yet.
Who is Matthew Garbett?
The 23-year-old made 12 appearances in the Eredivisie scoring once, but was banished to the sidelines for disciplinary reasons at the end of last season and told to find a new club.
He has impressed at international level scoring twice and assisting six times in 11 World Cup qualifiers helping New Zealand reach the 2026 tournament.
Where does he fit in?
Garbett has spent the majority of his career in the middle of the park, so he will bring added depth to Posh’s midfield.
He can play defensive or attacking midfield and has a lot of experience playing centrally as a ‘number eight.’
With news this week that Ryan De Havilland won’t be included in Darren Ferguson’s plans, Posh needed a replacement and Garbett will fulfill that role and more with his versatility and presence.
My Verdict
It is hard to say with the recent portfolio of poor international additions that Garbett won’t follow in their footsteps, however looking deeper into his skillset, it appears an excellent addition on a free signing, which will hopefully improve our midfield.
This is just the beginning as Ferguson confirms he wants at least three to four more summer additions before the window closes.
After the performance at Accrington Stanley, this comment illustrates how much more quality this squad needs before the rebuild is complete.

What were his disciplinary issues? Any info on this?
