Is the price right? | The value of our most prized players

A lot has changed at Peterborough United recently. A new kit, a new badge, familiar faces departing, but this fact remains: we are a selling club.
In this article, I am going to go through what I view to be our four real high value assets, and put my price on them.
I'm not in charge of selling players though, and we all know that Darragh MacAnthony is an ambitious seller, therefore I will also put the price on the players that I think the clubs will have to pay to win over our master negotiator.
Disclaimer: I am not going to go into details such as add-ons or payment structures, therefore my price tag will be inclusive of those things.
Alex Bass
Age: 27 | Position: Goalkeeper

For the first time in my time supporting the club, we have a goalkeeper with potentially serious resale value.
Alex Bass truly is the best in his position in League One, as evidenced by his inclusion in the highest-rated Team of the Season, and I think he would command a very respectable fee for a ‘keeper.
Sam Tickle, the 24-year-old Wigan goalkeeper known to Posh fans for his cartwheels at London Road, has been linked to several Championship and higher end League One clubs this summer for a fee between £1.5-2 million.
While Tickle has three years on Bass, I think the Posh goalkeeper is a better player, and therefore think they balance out at around the same price.
Darragh MacAnthony, however, would be very reluctant to let go of the ‘best goalkeeper he has ever signed’ this summer, and I therefore think it would take quite the bid to make him part ways with his #1.
My valuation: £1.75 million
Darragh’s likely valuation: £2.5 million
Kyrell Lisbie
Age: 22 | Position: Winger

With 21 goal contributions in his first season, Kyrell Lisbie has already had interest from three Championship clubs according to his chairman.
Lisbie has serious potential to follow in the footsteps of Ephron Mason-Clark as the next big sale from the wide areas.
I think the deal for EMC would be quoted a lot by Darragh in negotiations over any sale for Lisbie this summer.
I just cannot see a world in which Darragh would accept a price lower than the one he sold EMC to Coventry for in January 2024 + the £800k that DMAC forfeited to take him back on loan.
We are also in a very fortunate position of Lisbie having penned a new long-term deal recently, which gives us power when negotiating over his sale.
I see no world in which Lisbie leaves this summer, however if he does it will be for an almighty whack of cash.
My valuation: £4 million
Darragh’s likely valuation: £5 million
Matthew Garbett
Age: 24 | Position: Attacking Midfielder

I think Garbett will probably leave this summer after his World Cup exploits with New Zealand, however it is incredibly difficult to place a price tag on him before we see how that goes.
Every World Cup has a team that overperforms, and breakout stars within that team who catch the headlines.
Although unlikely, that could be our Kiwi international.
Assuming New Zealand do expectedly poorly, and Garbett is used as a squad player (as has been speculated to be the case), then I think Garbett leaves for a modest, yet valuable transfer fee.
He clearly doesn’t love it here at Posh, and I don’t think his injury-related conduct has made him popular amongst the staff either.
He has two years left on his contract though, so clubs will have to at least somewhat cough up to secure the mercurial midfielder’s services.
My valuation: £1.8 million
Darragh’s likely valuation: £2 million
Harry Leonard
Age: 22 | Position: Striker

Signed last summer for a seven-figure fee, Harry Leonard is the absolute jewel in the Peterborough United crown.
For me, Leonard’s quality is one of the only things that provide me with the slight optimism that next season could be a good one.
Darragh MacAnthony loves Leonard, and so do the fans. He is a true striker who would run through brick walls for the club.
Leonard scored 17 goals for Posh, all under Luke Williams. I genuinely believe that in one of the great, free-flowing Posh teams of years past, he is easily a 30+ goal per season striker.
MacAnthony will want to keep hold of Harry Leonard, and has publicly said that he is going nowhere unless somebody puts up eight figures for him.
While I’m not sure DMAC’s resolve is quite that strong, I don’t think it’s far off. This one would be the biggest fee since Toney leaving.
My valuation: £6 million
Darragh’s likely valuation: £8 million
For what it's worth
This is by no means an attempt to auction off Peterborough United’s best talent, however it is somewhat reassuring to know that we have assets that could generate a big fee at any given time within the club.
I hope that they all stay this summer, particularly our most valuable player Harry Leonard, however you can never rule out a big offer from above.
