Posh sign keeper from Norwich

Posh have moved quickly to cover the loss of Alex Bass by bringing in goalkeeper Vicente Reyes on loan from Championship side Norwich City.

Why another ‘keeper?

Bass is set to miss six weeks due to a foot injury suffered in the pre-season game at MK Dons.

The club were ecstatic with the capture of Bass, and so will be gutted that he’s missing the start of the season.

Reyes will be a short-term replacement, with the loan agreement between Posh and the Canaries seeing him return to his parent club in January.

Who is Vicente Reyes?

The 21-year-old Chilean joined Norwich from MLS side Atlanta United in 2023. Since then, he has been on loan at League Two’s Forest Green Rovers, and most recently in League One with Cambridge United.

Towards the end of last season, Reyes made four appearances for the Norwich first team. He is highly-rated there, and they will be hoping that another League One loan will do him the world of good.

Reyes is 6ft 3ins, making him a physically imposing goalkeeper, however he was frequently criticised at Cambridge for a lack of dominance and organisation skills.

He has a penchant for getting beaten at his near post, something that nearly got him dropped by Garry Monk at Cambridge before his January recall.

Having played at two relegation threatened sides in Forest Green and Cambridge, he has experience facing a high volume of shots, an issue he may have to contend with at Posh.

A Norwich fan's view

Reyes is highly thought of at Norwich, where he’s made strides while out on loan.

A goalkeeping crisis last year meant Reyes was able to make his first steps in the Championship. In a bold move by then manager Johannes Hoff Thorup, he was chosen to start ahead of veteran goalkeeper George Long against Millwall in April.

In those four appearances he was relatively comfortable with the ball at his feet and made some smart saves.

However, there were quite obvious question marks around his physicality and presence. With a couple of goals coming directly from his inability to command his box.

Verdict

I am glad that we are not starting the League One campaign with Bilokapic in goal. He has proven consistently that he cannot be trusted, and you’d expect Reyes to go straight in against Cardiff on Saturday.

If we had signed Reyes as a first choice, I would have been concerned given his level of experience, however as short-term cover for a much better ‘keeper in Bass, I will not complain.

I'm a bit of a luddite but can't see how new branding is going to attract new supporters to the club , it's just poppycock .

As for crest it's meh , here's hoping they do a better job with the centenary one in 8 years time , if we exist !
