The Great Summer Clear-out

Updated: Aug 15

Darren Ferguson has revealed that there are five Peterborough United players that are now surplus to requirements.

This follows a bleak defeat at Accrington Stanley, Posh’s third straight loss of the new campaign.

I have tried to find clubs that I feel would fit those players.

Will Blackmore

Ideal fit: Woking

The poor lad has had a turgid time in recent years. Family difficulties, illness and injuries have prevented his career from really getting going.

He is a decent shotstopper, and composed with the ball at his feet.

I feel that a National League move would be best for Blackmore - he needs a starting jersey, and the fifth tier is the best place for that.

At Woking, Blackmore stays down south and will likely start consistently.

He is a fantastic character, something that I’m sure will be needed for a side facing a tough National League campaign.

Nicholas Bilokapic

Ideal fit: Grimsby Town

Bilo needs a fresh start.

He has had a very tumultuous Posh career, and was always going to leave the club this summer.

League Two is the perfect level for him to have a full reset.

Bilokapic is an excellent shotstopper, with some of the best reflexes I have seen on a Posh goalkeeper.

His issues come with the ball at his feet, however a move to Grimsby would not call this skill into question as much.

Grimsby have Christy Pym in goal, who has started the season in his usual Tyrannosaurus Rex-esque form, with the lowest save percentage in the league.

Bilo would be a great upgrade on Pym, who can take the back-up role.

Ryan De Havilland

Ideal fit: Barnet

It’s not gone De Havilland’s way since joining Posh. His work rate has never been called into question, but he does not seem to have the ability to play the highly-technical central midfield role in Ferguson’s system.

That said, he has put in some quality performances in a Posh shirt, and is easily a League Two level midfielder, and probably a good one at that.

A move back to his former club seems to make sense, with them losing their first two games of the season.

He is appreciated by Dean Brennan, who was at the club during De Havilland’s first spell, and knows his system well.

Chris Conn-Clarke

Ideal fit: Bristol Rovers

CCC came in from Altrincham with so much excitement around his name, having scored 22 goals in the 23/24 season. It seemed inevitable that he would be the next big name off the production line at Posh.

But he has not lived up to these standards in the slightest, and does not look like a player capable of adapting to Fergie’s system. Therefore, a permanent move away makes sense for all parties.

Bristol Rovers have started their season poorly, and are lacking a bit of firepower.

Conn-Clarke’s maverick ability will suit their style well.

Darrell Clarke is a top man-manager, and is likely to get the best out of him.

The Gas manager has said that he wants four new signings before the window closes, and Conn-Clarke would be a very smart addition.

Posh will want to recoup a small fee, however it shouldn’t be unrealistic to complete.

Jacob Wakeling

Ideal fit: Swindon Town

He really has not had a good time at Posh.

After joining from Swindon in summer 2023, he has had a largely unsuccessful League Two loan spell at Gillingham, and played just nine games for Posh.

Wakeling joined as a top young prospect, but hasn’t shown that here in the slightest.

For me, it makes sense for Wakeling to go back to his roots at Swindon, the club that made him, to try and build up some confidence again.

A small fee will likely be involved, however he does have quality, and in a more comfortable environment, hopefully that would shine through.
